PROJECT DETAILS

THE BRIEF

This project focuses on the thoughtful transformation of a period living room within a granite townhouse on Great Western Road, Aberdeen. The space was designated as a formal reception room, intended for occasional use and special gatherings, requiring a design approach that balances elegance, comfort, and modern functionality. The overarching aim was to create a contemporary interior that sits comfortably within a historic setting, enhancing rather than competing with the building’s original character.

The design concept is anchored by sage green velvet Chesterfield sofas and a coordinating footstool, which provide both a visual and tactile foundation for the scheme. These classic forms, reinterpreted in a contemporary colour and fabric, act as a bridge between traditional craftsmanship and modern living. The palette and furnishings were carefully considered to bring warmth and softness to the space while allowing architectural features to remain the focal point.

Central to the brief was a strong commitment to preserving the integrity and quality of the period property. Original features were respected and highlighted, with new elements introduced in a way that feels sympathetic and intentional. The result is a harmonious living room that honours the home’s heritage while delivering a refined, modern aesthetic suited to today’s lifestyle.
